Ghana former food buffer chief Hanan Abdul-Wahab wins court battle over travel ban

Ghanaian prosecutors withdrew a motion that sought to cancel a travel permission previously granted to former National Food Buffer Stock Company chief Hanan Abdul-Wahab. The Accra High Court noted that the original travel order had expired on July 12, 2026, and therefore there was no active order to revoke, effectively clearing Abdul‑Wahab to travel for medical treatment in London. His defence team criticised the timing of the state’s actions, alleging the authorities intended to block his departure and continue holding his passport.

In a separate development, Abdul‑Wahab filed a petition with the Attorney‑General alleging systematic harassment, unlawful detention and torture by state security agencies. He claims he was arrested in June 2025, faced an excessive bail of GH¢60 million, and was later rearrested by EOCO officers after charges were withdrawn in May 2026. The petition accuses the Attorney‑General, EOCO and the Bureau of National Investigations of violating his constitutional right to due process.
