Ghana fuel prices see mixed movement amid global supply concerns

Fuel prices in Ghana are experiencing mixed movements as oil marketing companies (OMCs) respond to international market volatility. For the September pricing window, state-owned GOIL has maintained its petrol and diesel rates to provide consumer relief, keeping Super XP at GH¢15.43 and Diesel XP at GH¢17.26 per litre.

In contrast, other providers have implemented increases. Star Oil raised both petrol and diesel prices effective September 2, citing rising international costs for crude and refined products. TotalEnergies also increased petrol prices from GH¢15.99 to GH¢16.18 per litre, while diesel remains at GH¢17.59.

Energy analyst Samson Addae has warned of potential further hikes by September 15. He attributes the upward pressure on local retail rates to a global supply deficit and geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran, which continue to disrupt maritime trade routes and shipping corridors. While short-term outlooks remain challenging, Addae noted that strategic government interventions are being formulated to stabilize the economy and eventually ease pump prices.
