Ghana Gas urged to reinvest for power sector stability
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) is calling for significant reinvestment in the Ghana National Gas Company to ensure the stability of the nation’s power sector. Following an assessment of infrastructure in the Western Region, regulators emphasized that sustained investment in gas supply is essential for thermal power plants that drive electricity generation.
PURC Executive Secretary Dr. Shafic Suleman noted that while infrastructure upgrades require capital, they will ultimately reduce the long-term cost of power generation. He commended the company’s recent financial performance and urged management to convert profitability into expanded infrastructure.
In response, Ghana Gas CEO Judith Adjobah Blay stated that the company is planning to reinvest profits to improve efficiency and reliability. A key upcoming project includes the construction of a third compressor unit to provide critical operational redundancy for the system.
