Ghana Gender Minister engages communities on social protection

Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has conducted a series of community dialogues to discuss social protection programmes and community welfare. During engagements in Tema Manhean, Bankuman, Chorkor, and Mamprobi, the Minister emphasized the necessity of community participation in implementing government interventions designed to support vulnerable households.

Dr. Lartey addressed several social challenges, including drug abuse, child neglect, youth unemployment, and the impact of traditional gender norms. She specifically called on parents to promote equitable gender roles by sharing domestic responsibilities fairly between boys and girls, noting that disproportionate burdens on girls often lead to school dropouts and teenage pregnancy.

To facilitate engagement, the Minister encouraged citizens to utilize the Single Window Citizen Engagement Service (SWECES) and the Orange Support Line to report grievances or seek information. The dialogues aim to provide a platform for residents to share experiences and propose practical solutions to reduce poverty and social exclusion.
