Ghana government announces infrastructure projects in Ashanti Region

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene has announced several infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving economic activity and connectivity in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

To decentralize trading and reduce congestion in the Kumasi Central Business District, the government is constructing 41 District Model Markets. These facilities aim to provide local traders with better environments and reduce the need for long-distance travel to the Kumasi Kejetia Market. Progress is already being reported at sites such as Aboabo, which is 20 percent complete, and Tebeso, which is over 40 percent complete.

In Ejura, the government plans to construct 10 kilometers of farm roads to assist agricultural communities in transporting produce to markets. Additionally, the rural electrification programme is targeting 27 remote communities; 16 have already been connected to the national electricity grid, with work ongoing for the remaining 11.
