Ghana government pays road contractors over $2bn in two years

Ghanaian Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza has announced that the government has paid road contractors more than $2 billion, in Ghana cedi equivalent, over the last two years. These funds were allocated to settle inherited arrears and finance new road infrastructure projects.

During an inspection of the Accra-Kumasi bypass project, Agbodza dismissed reports suggesting that the government had ordered contractors to halt work for investigations. He emphasized that the administration is committed to preventing the abandonment of projects due to funding shortages and noted that construction on the Accra-Kumasi bypass is actively progressing.
