Ghana High Commission corrects evacuation record errors
The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria has admitted to clerical errors in the records of 15 individuals during a recent emergency evacuation from South Africa. The mission clarified that dates previously flagged as future birth dates, such as 2034 and 2036, were actually passport expiry dates mistakenly transcribed by officials under pressure.
The errors affected 15 people out of a total of 1,964 Ghanaians repatriated during the exercise. The High Commission stated that these discrepancies do not invalidate the identities of the evacuees, their participation in the program, or their eligibility for reintegration and transportation allowances.
The mission attributed the mistakes to the traumatic and urgent circumstances of the emergency operation. An amended list containing corrected birth dates and passport information has been released to update official records.
