Ghana highway collision kills eight people
Eight people died and 21 others were injured following a collision on the Elubo–Takoradi Highway in western Ghana on Thursday night. The accident occurred at approximately 7:26 p.m. near Samenye at a location called Azuletti.
The crash involved an Ivorian-registered bus traveling toward Benin and a Burkinabè bus that was parked across a lane of the highway. According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the stationary Burkinabè vehicle was reportedly obstructing the lane, leaving the oncoming Ivorian bus with little room to maneuver in the dark.
Seven victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while an eighth person died later at a hospital. Fire crews from the Elubo station rescued the 21 injured passengers and transported them to nearby medical facilities. Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding may have been a contributing factor, though authorities are continuing inquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash.
