Ghana Immigration Service arrests Nigerian national for human trafficking
The Savannah Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested a 34-year-old Nigerian national, known as Prince James or Prince Odogunu, for alleged human trafficking. The arrest took place in Clooth, an illegal mining community in the Bole District of the Savannah Region.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Lawrence Agyei Agyapong, officials traveled 240 kilometers by motorbike to conduct an ambush and apprehend the suspect. The victim, a 24-year-old Nigerian woman, reported being lured by an agent with the promise of a nursing job in Ghana. Instead, she was allegedly transported through Togo and Benin before being moved to the Savannah Region to be forced into sex work.
Authorities noted that several accomplices fled the scene during the operation. Officials described Clooth as a hub for criminal activities involving foreign nationals and stated that efforts to locate the remaining suspects are ongoing.
