Ghana Immigration Service targets job scams and trafficking in Aflao

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has launched initiatives in the Aflao border community to combat fraudulent recruitment and human exploitation. The service issued a warning to residents, particularly young people, regarding fake overseas job offers. Fraudsters are reportedly targeting job seekers with promises of high salaries and easy travel to solicit large sums of money.

In a separate but related effort, the GIS collaborated with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the National Population Council (NPC) to conduct a capacity-building program in the Ketu South Municipality. This program focuses on educating migrants and border communities about gender-based violence, sexual exploitation, abuse, and human trafficking.

Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Mark Asamoah-Boakye emphasized that border security involves protecting the safety and dignity of people, not just monitoring the movement of goods and passports. The initiative utilized storytelling and drama to engage stakeholders, including religious leaders, traders, and community members, to raise awareness of the vulnerabilities faced by women and children in transit zones.
