Digital education initiatives target connectivity gaps in Ghana and Argentina

Various educational initiatives are utilizing technology to bridge learning gaps in regions with limited connectivity. In Ghana, several projects are implementing offline digital education models to reach rural communities where internet and electricity are unreliable. These models utilize mobile devices, local servers, internal Wi-Fi networks, and solar power to provide access to digital content.

Key examples include CAMFED’s Mobile Learning Labs and TECHAiDE’s ASANKA system. These efforts address a significant digital divide; UNICEF data indicates that only approximately 19% of students aged 3 to 24 in Ghana have internet access.

Other regional efforts include Mendoza, Argentina, which has integrated the Matific platform—an AI-driven, gamified mathematics tool—to personalize learning and reduce educational gaps in both urban and rural schools. Additionally, educational leaders at the Lenovo Education Summit emphasized the importance of the ‘Smart Campus’ model, which uses AI and hybrid experiences to adapt to changing labor market demands.
