Ghana launches Girls-In-ICT program to boost digital skills

Ghana has launched the 2025 Girls-In-ICT Open Day, a five-day program designed to equip 100 teenage girls from the Volta and Upper West Regions with essential digital and artificial intelligence skills. Opened by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, the initiative aims to address the global underrepresentation of women in technical fields such as cybersecurity, software engineering, and data science.

The program provides hands-on training in coding, leadership, and emerging technologies to prepare participants for an AI-driven economy. Alongside this educational push, Minister George addressed public concerns regarding telecommunications infrastructure, asserting that the expansion of mobile network sites poses no health risks and remains under strict oversight by the National Communications Authority and the Environmental Protection Agency.

In related digital developments, the Minister also met with the French Ambassador to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in telecommunications and digital infrastructure. Meanwhile, the African education accelerator Injini has launched an eight-month AI venture builder to support EdTech startups across the continent, focusing on developing locally relevant AI solutions for African classrooms.
