Ghana Launches Free Pre‑Employment Training Academy to Boost Graduate Jobs

The Skills & Innovation Academy, funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ, has opened a free pre‑employment training programme for Ghanaian graduates. The curriculum, built after a needs assessment of local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), equips participants with technical, digital and workplace skills that match employer demand, allowing SMEs to recruit job‑ready talent.

The initiative is part of the “Decent Work for a Just Transition” special programme and aims to alleviate the high youth unemployment rate in Ghana, where many graduates still hope for limited government posts. Commentators note that the government cannot absorb all graduates, highlighting the need for private‑sector pathways such as the Academy to close the skills gap and support sustainable economic development.
