Ghana launches Green Project Preparation Facility to attract climate finance
A Green Project Preparation Facility (PPF) was launched in Accra to help Ghana close its infrastructure financing gap and accelerate climate‑resilient development. The facility is a partnership among FSD Africa, the British High Commission and the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), and is initially capitalised with a £5 million commitment from the UK government. It will prepare climate‑aligned infrastructure ideas – in renewable energy, water, waste, transport, housing and social infrastructure – to become investment‑ready, reducing development risk and shortening the time to financial close. GIIF Chief Executive Nana Dwemoh Benneh said the PPF will boost Ghana’s climate‑investment agenda, while British Deputy High Commissioner Terri Sarch highlighted the UK‑Ghana partnership’s role in turning ideas into investable projects. FSD Africa CEO Mark Napier called the launch a major step for Ghana’s climate‑finance ecosystem. The facility is open to public and private developers and aims to mobilise private capital to support Ghana’s transition to a low‑carbon, sustainable economy amid growing climate challenges such as erratic rainfall, rising sea levels and flood risks.
