Ghana's National Sanitation Exercise Mobilises Communities Across Regions
District Chief Executive Sandra Seyram Kpedor praised residents, institutions and organisations in Anloga District for their participation in a two‑day clean‑up, urging continued personal responsibility and collaboration to maintain a healthier environment.
In the Western Region, hundreds of residents joined the nationwide effort, desilting choked drains and clearing waste in Sekondi, Shama and the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality. The exercise was supported by Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the Ghana Police Service, the National Fire Service and the Armed Forces, with the regional minister emphasizing shared responsibility for preventing floods and disease.
Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi pledged to crack down on sanitation offenders, calling shop owners to act as watchmen and highlighting the link between litter, blocked gutters and recurrent flooding in the city’s central business district.
Municipal Chief Executive Ben Abdullah Alhassan of Asokore‑Mampong reminded participants that sanitation is a collective duty, warning that non‑compliance could attract sanctions and stressing the health risks of improper waste disposal.
