Northshore Apparel factory inaugurated in Savelugu to boost Ghana's manufacturing

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited factory in Savelugu, Northern Region. The €10.2 million facility is a zero-waste, regenerative manufacturing hub designed to boost garment production for the export market and serves as a primary implementation of the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy.

Funded through a blended finance model involving the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM), Germany’s KfW Development Bank, and the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), the project has already created over 2,300 immediate jobs. At full operational capacity, the facility is projected to employ up to 10,000 workers, with some estimates suggesting it could eventually absorb up to 30,000 young people.

To support the manufacturing sector, the government has also launched the Northern Cotton Revival Initiative. This program aims to establish a multi-district cotton production belt in the Northern Region to provide a reliable local supply of raw materials, reducing dependence on imports. Northshore Apparel CEO Nurideen Mohammed announced plans for a three-phase expansion, which includes a future fabric mill and a cotton outgrower scheme to integrate the textile value chain across the West African cotton belt.
