Northshore Apparel industrial development in Ghana

The inauguration of the Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited factory in Savelugu marks a significant development in Ghana’s manufacturing sector. President John Dramani Mahama inaugurated the €10.2 million facility, which is designed as a zero-waste, regenerative hub to support the government’s ‘24-Hour Economy’ policy and garment production for export.

Funded by a blended finance model including the Ghana Export-Import Bank, Germany’s KfW Development Bank, and the Agricultural Development Bank, the project has created over 2,300 immediate jobs, with long-term employment projections reaching up to 30,000 workers. To support the industry, the government launched the Northern Cotton Revival Initiative to establish a local cotton production belt in the Northern Region.

In conjunction with the opening, Northshore Apparel CEO Nurideen Mohammed advocated for the Ghanaian government to award uniform contracts for public institutions and security services to local manufacturers rather than relying on imports. Mohammed argued that domestic production would retain foreign exchange, create jobs, and generate tax revenue, noting that the company seeks to compete on quality and pricing to support the local textile value chain.
