Ghana Leaders Honor John Atta Mills, Urge Structural Reforms

President John Dramani Mahama laid a wreath at Accra’s Asomdwee Park on the 14th anniversary of former President John Evans Atta Mills’ death, praising Mills’ humility, integrity and compassionate leadership and urging Ghanaians to emulate his values.

In a memorial lecture, Professor Kwabena Frimpong‑Boateng warned that Ghana faces a deep structural crisis: under‑funded research and regulatory bodies such as the CSIR, Atomic Energy Commission and EPA are forced to commercialise for payroll, and the country lags in technological self‑reliance. He called for generous state funding of these institutions, a closing of the technology gap, and the development of local industrial capacity as essential steps to continue Mills’ vision for national development.
