Ghana’s National Clean‑Up Order Suspends Shops in Accra and Kumasi
The Ga Traditional Council, led by King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, ordered all shops, markets and commercial establishments in Accra to close between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon on Friday July 10 and Saturday July 11 to enable participation in the nationwide clean‑up aimed at reducing flood risk.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly issued a similar directive, closing all trading and commercial activities in the city’s Central Business District on Saturday July 11, with additional clean‑up hours on Friday July 10. Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi also ordered the demolition of illegal kiosks and cracked down on unhygienic food vendors during the two‑day exercise.
Karpowership Ghana supported the campaign by donating wheelbarrows, bins, rakes, shovels and other sanitation tools to the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, where its staff joined residents in the clean‑up. The coordinated effort follows recent floods and is intended to clear drains, remove waste and promote a cleaner, healthier environment nationwide.
