Ghana Maritime Authority installs solar boreholes in Wa

The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), in partnership with Humanity First Ghana, has commissioned solar-powered mechanised boreholes to address severe water scarcity in the Wa Municipality. One of the new installations is located at T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (T. I. AMASS), which serves over 1,400 students.

Prior to this intervention, students frequently missed or arrived late to classes due to the hours required to search for water. The lack of reliable water also contributed to health issues, with school officials noting frequent cases of typhoid. The new solar-powered system is intended to improve personal hygiene, reduce waterborne diseases, and minimize disruptions to teaching and learning.

The project is part of a broader Corporate Social Responsibility initiative involving the installation of seven boreholes. In addition to the school, the current phase includes installations in the communities of Chansa, Biihee, and Boli.
