Ghana Marks 14 Years Since President Atta Mills' Death with Memorial and Calls for Reform

President John Dramani Mahama led a wreath‑laying and memorial ceremony at Asomdwee Park, Ghana, commemorating 14 years since the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills. He pledged to continue Mills’ legacy, noting the late leader’s humility and character, and addressed a gathering that included the Speaker of Parliament, traditional leaders, senior ministers and members of the Mills family.

On the same anniversary, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong‑Boateng, former health minister and cardiothoracic surgeon, delivered a lecture at the University for Professional Studies. He praised Mills’ commitment to rule of law, transparency and scientific development, while warning that Ghana’s progress is hampered by weak institutions, inadequate waste management and encroachment on flood‑retention sites. The professor cited recent floods in Greater Accra as evidence of systemic failure and urged long‑term national planning, noting ongoing renovations of Asomdwee Park and the Atta Mills Memorial House.

Both events called for renewed focus on good governance, institutional strengthening and the realization of the development agenda envisioned by President Mills.
