Ghana Medical Trust Fund expands regional sensitization tour
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), also known as Mahama Cares, is extending its nationwide sensitization campaign to the Northern and Upper East Regions. This follows previous engagements in the Western, Central, Greater Accra, and Volta regions.
The initiative aims to increase public awareness regarding the Fund’s mandate, promote the early detection of chronic non-communicable diseases—including cancer—and improve access to specialized healthcare. The campaign focuses on educating residents about eligibility requirements for patient support and the financial necessity of early diagnosis.
Through these engagements, the GMTF seeks to bring together regional authorities, traditional leaders, health professionals, and civil society organizations to address healthcare delivery gaps. Key issues to be discussed include shortages of medical equipment, limited diagnostic services, inadequate specialist care, and the financial barriers that prevent patients from receiving essential treatment. Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku is expected to emphasize the need for collaboration between government agencies, healthcare institutions, and development partners to mitigate the economic burden of chronic illness on families.
