Healthcare access and support initiatives in Ghana
Overview
Efforts to improve healthcare delivery and accessibility in Ghana have seen recent focus on regional support and public awareness. The World Health Organization (WHO) pledged to strengthen healthcare in the Upper East Region, targeting vulnerable populations and addressing challenges related to disease surveillance and cross-border health collaboration near the borders of Burkina Faso and Togo.
Concurrently, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), also referred to as ‘Mahama Cares’, has expanded a nationwide sensitization campaign into the Northern and Upper East Regions. This initiative aims to increase awareness of the Fund’s mandate, promote early detection of chronic non-communicable diseases such as cancer, and address financial barriers to specialized medical care and diagnostic services.
