Ghana Medical Trust Fund provides cardiac care to 110 children
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has marked its first anniversary, providing lifesaving cardiac treatment to over 150 patients at the National Cardiothoracic Centre at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Of these patients, approximately 110 are children who previously faced significant financial barriers to essential care.
Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, Head of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, noted that the fund allows children to reclaim their futures, enabling them to return to school and eventually contribute to the nation's development.
In addition to patient support, the GMTF has funded critical infrastructure. Following a fire that destroyed the centre’s cardiac catheterisation laboratory, the fund replaced it with a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation centre. Since its opening, more than 60 patients have undergone complex procedures at the new facility.
