Ghana Ministry of Local Government distributes 128 SUVs to MMDCEs

The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has distributed 128 brand-new Haval H9 SUVs and pickup trucks to selected Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across Ghana.

Sector Minister Mahama Ayariga stated that the vehicles are intended to strengthen decentralization and improve the mobility of local government authorities. The distribution follows a period of approximately eighteen months during which many MMDCEs lacked official transport, often relying on personal vehicles to perform their duties.

The SUVs are designated for mayors and chief executives, while the pickup trucks are intended to support operational activities under the supervision of coordinating directors. Ayariga emphasized that the vehicles are public assets meant for official duties, such as supervising development projects and monitoring community activities, and cautioned against their use for personal business or private engagements.
