Ghana Ministry targets private capital for city beautification
The Ghanaian Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs is developing an initiative to attract private capital for the beautification and maintenance of major cities. Under the proposed framework, private companies—including banks, manufacturing firms, construction companies, and insurance providers—will be invited to fund the reconstruction, lighting, and greening of designated streets and landmarks.
In exchange for these investments, participating businesses will be granted exclusive advertising rights and the privilege of naming the streets or landmarks after their brands. Minister Mahama Ayariga stated that the goal is to ease the financial burden on local authorities while transforming urban centers to meet modern aesthetic standards.
Additionally, the Ministry is finalizing a national waste management programme. This scheme, which will utilize modern collection and recycling techniques, is projected to create approximately 20,000 jobs across the country.
