Ghana Narcotics Control Commission urges media to investigate trafficking networks

Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has called on journalists to move beyond reporting on drug seizures and arrests to investigate the underlying networks and vulnerabilities that facilitate drug trafficking.

Speaking at the Ashanti Media Excellence Awards in Kumasi, NACOC officials emphasized that deeper investigations into how trafficking operations exploit gaps could improve public understanding and strengthen community protection. The commission encouraged evidence-based reporting and urged the media to highlight concerns affecting young people and vulnerable groups while avoiding the presentation of allegations as established facts.
