Ghana National Cathedral Board ordered to hand over site by October 2026
The Board of Trustees for the National Cathedral of Ghana has been ordered to hand over the project site to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs by October 31, 2026. This directive follows President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to dissolve the Board with immediate effect.
In a letter signed by Sector Minister Mahama Ayariga, the Chairman and board members were instructed to coordinate with the project consultant to finalize the handover. This move follows a period of uncertainty; while the government announced plans to dissolve the National Cathedral Secretariat and disband the Board in July 2025 following an audit, some members remained in office pending formal written instructions.
The Ministry stated that taking control of the site will enable the government to decide the future of the National Cathedral project, which has been stalled due to ongoing questions regarding its management, financing, and construction.
