Ghana National Fire Service conducts safety campaigns and averts tanker fire

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is conducting intensive fire safety campaigns across the Eastern Region to improve emergency preparedness ahead of upcoming festivals. In Akropong, officials conducted door-to-door and street sensitization regarding electrical safety, LPG handling, and bush burning. Similar educational exercises were held in Asamankese and the Suhum Municipality, targeting health facilities, churches, and private businesses to mitigate risks from combustible materials and overloaded electrical sockets.

In a separate incident, firefighters successfully contained a fire involving a 50,000-litre LPG tanker on the Accra Motorway. Officials stated that the intervention averted a major catastrophe that could have caused widespread damage to nearby communities and motorists. While the fire is under control, the Accra-bound side of the motorway remains blocked to facilitate the safe recovery and towing of the tanker, leading to significant traffic delays.
