Overview

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has continued its operations involving emergency response and preventative safety initiatives. Following previous efforts in the Eastern Region, the GNFS conducted intensive fire safety campaigns in Akropong, Asamankese, and the Suhum Municipality. These educational exercises targeted health facilities, churches, and private businesses, focusing on electrical safety, LPG handling, and bush burning to improve preparedness ahead of upcoming festivals.

In terms of emergency response, the GNFS has managed several high-risk incidents involving fuel transport. Following a previous intervention involving a 50,000-litre LPG tanker on the Accra Motorway, firefighters responded to a situation in Osubetor, Tinkong, where a MAN fuel tanker carrying approximately 54,000 litres of petrol became immobilized on the Osubetor Bridge due to a suspected mechanical fault. While no leakage or fire was detected, crews applied cooling measures as a precaution.

Domestic fires also required attention. In Larteh Akuapem, a fire broke out in a single-room residence at Mission Quarters. Residents managed to extinguish the blaze before the GNFS arrived; while belongings such as clothes and blankets were destroyed, no casualties were reported. The cause and total cost of the Larteh fire remain undetermined.
