Ghana, Nigeria champion AI skills for young workers

The Design and Technology Institute (DTI) used Ghana’s 2026 Jobs and Opportunities Fair in Accra to urge young Ghanaians to adopt artificial intelligence, technical skills and entrepreneurship, warning that the greatest challenge is not job loss to machines but the lack of skills to seize new AI‑driven roles. DTI’s founder Constance Swaniker highlighted Ghana’s 32.5% youth unemployment rate and cited that the institute has created over 41,000 employment and entrepreneurship opportunities since 2016, with more than half benefiting young women.

In Lagos, the Claiming Tomorrow Summit at the Alliance Française showcased Nigeria’s push to integrate AI responsibly into education. Nsibidi Fables CEO Efayi Ezefuna emphasized that AI is a tool for future creators, describing the organization’s programs that teach software development, digital storytelling and animation to schoolchildren, while noting the country’s under‑funded and understaffed schools could benefit from such technology‑enhanced learning.
