Kennedy Agyapong faces NPP disciplinary petition over anti‑party conduct

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP Kennedy Agyapong has been accused of anti‑party conduct after publicly criticizing the party’s handling of the Afari Military Hospital project and alleging contract kickbacks. On 18 June 2026, Charles Opoku, deputy national coordinator of the party’s student wing TESCON, filed a petition with the NPP disciplinary committee alleging a “pattern of misconduct”, false claims and threats by Agyapong to expose party members.

NPP figures have responded. Former presidential aspirant Dr Bryan Acheampong appealed for party unity, urging Agyapong to support the party’s flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia and refrain from further division. Party spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng defended Agyapong’s remarks as intended to spark reflection and reconciliation rather than sabotage the party. The dispute highlights internal tensions within Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party as it prepares for the 2028 general election.
