Ghana NPP Reopens Youth Organizer Race, General Secretary Seeks Re‑election

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana reopened the contest for Upper East Regional Youth Organiser after disqualifying the two original aspirants, Samuel Akumbo Awintariba (known as “Wakiki”) and Jonathan Abugre (known as “Contempt”), for exceeding the party’s constitutional age limit of 40. Nominations were accepted from July 26 to July 27, allowing any eligible member below 40 to file, as the party continues its debate over the youth age ceiling, which remained at 40 despite proposals to lower it.

Separately, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong launched his re‑election campaign in the Savannah Region, receiving endorsements from regional executives and party officials. Kodua outlined four priorities—preparing, positioning, focusing and rebuilding—to guide the party toward the 2028 general elections, citing reforms such as expanding the electoral college, strengthening communications, and establishing the Patriotic Institute for leadership training.
