Ghana opposition disputes South Africa evacuation figures

The Minority in Ghana's Parliament is challenging the government's reported figures regarding the evacuation of citizens from South Africa. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa previously stated that the government spent GH¢49.7 million to evacuate 1,964 Ghanaians following recent xenophobic attacks.

Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, Deputy Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, disputed these claims, stating that a reconciliation of publicly available passenger data and flight dates results in a significantly lower total. The Minority has called for the government to provide full documentary evidence to verify both the actual number of people transported and the total expenditure involved.
