Ghana government pays GH¢10.8 billion to DDEP bondholders

The Government of Ghana has paid GH¢10.8 billion to bondholders under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP). This latest settlement was made in full and in cash, marking the third such payment to be completed without a Payment-In-Kind (PIK) component.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the total amount disbursed to DDEP bondholders since 2025 has reached GH¢41.36 billion. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stated that the timely payment is intended to demonstrate fiscal discipline, reduce sovereign default risk, and reinforce the nation’s financial credibility.

The DDEP was established in December 2022 as part of a broader debt restructuring effort following Ghana’s 2022 sovereign debt default. The programme aims to restore macroeconomic stability by exchanging existing domestic bonds for new instruments with revised coupon rates and longer maturities.
