Ghana Police arrest 36 suspects after officer killed in Savannah Region mob attack

Thirty-six suspects have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following a mob attack in the Gindabour area of the Sawla District, Savannah Region. The incident resulted in the death of General Constable Redeemer Owusu and several injuries to other officers.

The violence reportedly erupted after a police patrol team discovered an unconscious motorbike rider in the bush. While officers were attempting to transport the individual to a hospital, the rider died, triggering a mob response against the patrol team. The attack also caused damage to a police vehicle.

Tensions in the Gindabuo area have escalated, with reports indicating that property has been destroyed, including the residence and vehicle of the Paramount Chief of the Kong Traditional Area. In response, Inspector-General of Police Christian Yohonu has deployed investigators, intelligence officers, and reinforcement teams from surrounding areas such as Damongo, Bole, and Sawla to maintain law and order. The deceased officer and the motorbike rider have been moved to the Damongo Morgue for autopsy.
