Overview

The Ghana Police Service has conducted various operations targeting criminal syndicates and managing civil unrest. Initially, intelligence-led operations focused on dismantling armed gangs in the Ashanti and Western regions that targeted gold dealers and mining sites. These efforts led to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of assault rifles and ammunition. Police also resolved high-profile murder cases and foiled planned robberies against financial institutions in the Greater Accra and Tema areas.

Following these successes, the security situation shifted toward managing violent civil unrest in the Savannah Region. A mob attack in the Sawla District, triggered by the death of a motorbike rider during a police patrol, resulted in the death of General Constable Redeemer Owusu and injuries to other officers. The violence escalated to include the destruction of property belonging to the Paramount Chief of the Kong Traditional Area. In response, the Inspector-General of Police deployed reinforcement teams and investigators to the region to restore law and order.
