Nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe remanded in Ghana Jollof TikTok case

Salomey Awiti Baffoe, a senior nursing officer in Techiman, has been remanded by the Adenta Circuit Court for two weeks following her arrest in connection with the ‘Ghana Jollof’ TikTok account. Baffoe faces charges of abetment of crime, specifically the publication and circulation of false news.

Police investigations allege that Baffoe acted as a liaison for Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, a UK-based TikToker known as ‘Ghana Jollof’. Authorities claim Kodua produced and published videos containing inciteful content, including false claims of a near coup d’état at the Jubilee House. Investigators allege a financial arrangement existed where Kodua transferred funds from the UK to Baffoe, who then recruited others to redistribute the material across social media platforms.

The arrest has sparked significant political and professional debate. The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) is seeking Baffoe’s early release, arguing she is not a flight risk. Additionally, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has condemned the arrest, expressing concern over the protection of fundamental rights and the potential for intelligence agencies to be used to target citizens for political insults.
