Ghana police kill three suspects in Buipe cattle market robbery investigation

Three suspected members of a robbery syndicate were killed in a shootout with police in Ghana’s Savannah Region. The suspects are believed to be involved in a June 29, 2026, robbery at the Buipe Cattle Market, where four armed men stole GH¢430,000 from two Mobile Money vendors.

Following the arrest of 28-year-old Yacouba Oumar in the Bono East Region, investigations revealed that the gang had allegedly been contracted by a cattle trader known as Alhaji Yacouba to carry out the heist. During police operations to apprehend the remaining suspects in areas including Atebubu and Agogo, an exchange of gunfire occurred. This resulted in the deaths of Yakubu Seidu, Abdulai Aziz Yahaya, and Oumaro Amadu.

Police recovered weapons believed to have been used in the robbery, including a pump-action gun and a single-barrel gun. Yacouba Oumar remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations as authorities work to apprehend other potential accomplices.
