The ensuing shootout resulted in the deaths of two suspects and the arrest of one individual. While police described the event as a response to a planned attack, GCB Bank issued a statement clarifying that its premises were never breached and no funds were affected. Some eyewitnesses suggested the suspects might have been targeting a customer rather than the banks.

In a separate incident in the Savannah Region, police killed three suspects during an investigation into a June 2026 robbery at the Buipe Cattle Market. The heist involved the theft of GH¢430,000 from two Mobile Money vendors. Investigations suggested the gang was allegedly contracted by a cattle trader. Following the arrest of one suspect, a shootout during police operations in Atebubu and Agogo led to the deaths of three additional suspects. Authorities recovered weapons believed to have been used in the robbery.
