Ghana police seize $6.9 million worth of cocaine hidden in gari sacks

The Tema Regional Police Command intercepted 866 parcels of a white powdered substance suspected to be cocaine concealed in sacks of gari at a warehouse in the Tema Harbour enclave. The haul, valued at about $6.9 million, was discovered during a raid on a 40‑foot container slated for export. Police arrested three suspects – Dutch national Gilano Horwin, John Mensah Sabah and Alhaji Iddris Haruna – who were supervising the loading. The seized exhibits are being held for forensic analysis.

In a related anti‑narcotics operation at Tsopoli in the Greater Accra Region, officers arrested taxi driver Eric Tetteh after intercepting an Opel taxi carrying four sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. A Hyundai H100 bus escaped, and a fifth sack is believed to have been removed before the arrest. The seized material and the driver have been taken to Tsopoli Police Station for further investigation.
