Ghana police seize Indian hemp and tramadol, arrest 24 in Tamale

On May 20, 2026, the Northern Regional Special Operations Team of the Ghana Police Service carried out a routine anti‑drug raid in Tamale Metropolis. Led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku and comprising 44 officers, the operation targeted known drug hotspots in Ward K and Sagnarigu.

The police arrested 24 suspects, ages ranging from 17 to 45, and seized five motorbikes, 25 wraps of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp, and 14 sachets of 250 mg tramadol. All detained individuals were placed in custody for further investigation.

The operation is part of the Northern Regional Police Command's ongoing effort to curb drug peddling and substance abuse in the region.
