President John Mahama declares two-day National Cleaning Exercise in flood‑hit Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has proclaimed Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July 2026 as National General Cleaning Days in seven regions of Ghana that were devastated by recent floods. The two‑day exercise, under the theme “Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana after the floods,” is organized by the Post‑Flood Mitigation Committee and calls on ministers, MPs, MMDCEs, security agencies and the public to participate.

The cleanup will focus on desilting blocked drains, sweeping roads, removing sand, weeds and debris, and cleaning markets, lorry parks and other public spaces. All Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies have been directed to work with waste‑management companies to provide trucks, gloves, shovels and other equipment, and to ensure that collected waste and silt are promptly evacuated.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited pledged full support, deploying trucks, skip containers, compactors, sanitation personnel and disinfection teams across the affected areas, and said its assistance could extend beyond the two days. Parliamentary Sanitation and Water Resources Committee chair John Oti Bless urged MPs to lead by example, emphasizing the urgent sanitation crisis and the need for collective action.
