Ghana prosecution dismisses Adu-Boahene defense motion as frivolous

The Attorney-General’s Department has declined to file a formal response to a motion filed by the defense of Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB). Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai characterized the application as “frivolous.”

The motion, filed by defense counsel Samuel Atta Akyea, seeks to strike out portions of the prosecution’s submissions. The defense argues that prosecutors misrepresented witness testimony and included assertions unsupported by evidence heard during the trial. Specifically, the defense claims prosecutors wrongly attributed statements to witnesses regarding the authenticity of certain exhibits, alleging that the prosecution used documents to make claims that were never established in court.

The High Court has adjourned the matter to October 29, 2026, for a hearing on the application. The ongoing criminal trial involves allegations of financial and other offenses against Adu-Boahene.
