Ghana National Signals Bureau corruption trial

Overview

The corruption trial of Kwabena Adu Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), involves allegations of the theft and diversion of GH¢49.1 million intended for state cybersecurity software. The prosecution includes Adu Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, and their company, Advantage Solutions.

In early proceedings, the Attorney General urged the High Court to reject a ‘no-case’ submission from the defense, arguing that witness testimony and documentation from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) decisively established the elements of the charges. Witnesses, including the NSB Head of Finance, testified regarding the transfer of funds to unknown accounts.

More recently, the Attorney-General’s Department declined to respond to a defense motion to strike out portions of the prosecution’s submissions, with Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai characterizing the application as “frivolous.” The defense has argued that prosecutors misrepresented witness testimony and included assertions unsupported by evidence. The High Court has adjourned the matter to hear the application.
