Ghana reclaims National Cathedral site pending forensic audit

The Ghanaian government has reclaimed the site of the unfinished National Cathedral in Accra. Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister Mahama Ayariga confirmed that the contractor has been ordered to hand over the land to his ministry.

The move comes as the Attorney-General conducts a review of a forensic audit regarding expenditures related to the initial project plans developed under the previous administration of President Akufo-Addo. Ayariga stated that no further decisions regarding the site will be made until the Attorney-General provides advice based on the audit findings.

Additionally, the National Cathedral's board of trustees has been dissolved following the government's decision to halt the commitment of further public funds to the project. The site will remain under the control of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs pending central government directives.
