Ghana repatriates 120 Nigerians rescued from cybercrime compounds

Ghana has repatriated 120 Nigerian nationals following an intelligence-led operation known as ‘Operation Cyberhunt’. The mission, led by Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with security agencies and international partners from Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States, targeted suspected cybercrime compounds and alleged human trafficking activities.

Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations Samuel Nartey George stated that the Nigerians had been trafficked to Ghana and allegedly forced to participate in cybercrime operations. The repatriation exercise was supported by the Ghana Air Force and the Ministry of Defence.

During the operation, authorities seized a significant amount of electronic equipment, including 136 mobile phones, 130 laptops, and various internet connectivity devices. Additionally, four vehicles were seized—one of which was reportedly stolen from Canada—along with jewellery and 10 Nigerian passports. While the 120 rescued individuals were returned to Nigeria, eight other individuals are currently being processed for prosecution.
