Ghana Revenue Authority allocates seized cargo to school feeding programme and leads flood cleanup

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) intercepted 18 trucks of transit cargo at the Kpone Barrier on the Tema Motorway. Although declared as transit to Niger, the cargo originated from Malaysia and Indonesia, entered Ghana via Lomé, and was destined for companies in Côte d’Ivoire. Investigations uncovered under‑declaration of vegetable cooking oil, mis‑classification of goods, and possible identity fraud. The seized cargo, including 39,256 jerrycans of oil, was redirected to the National School Feeding Programme, and four customs officers involved were interdicted.

Commissioner‑General Kwasi Anthony Sarpong also joined GRA staff in a nationwide cleanup effort following severe flooding in Accra and coastal communities. He urged citizens to maintain daily sanitation, highlighted the Authority’s own cleaning of its headquarters and nearby areas, and called on businesses to support community clean‑up initiatives. Sarpong expressed sympathy for flood victims and noted that the Authority would consider any applicable tax relief measures.
