Ghana Roads Minister orders acceleration of Accra-Kumasi Bypass

Ghanaian Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has issued directives to accelerate the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Bypass, aiming for completion by December 2027. During recent inspections in the Ashanti Region, Agbodza noted that while some contractors have remobilized and made progress, others must intensify efforts to meet the deadline, particularly in the high-congestion Konongo section.

To prevent project delays and unnecessary state expenditure, Agbodza warned utility companies and telecommunications operators against digging up newly completed roads to install infrastructure. He stated that the government will take legal action against providers like Ghana Water and the Electricity Company if they damage finished surfaces without prior coordination. He urged service providers to collaborate with road contractors during the construction phase to incorporate necessary ducts and pipes before asphalt is laid.

Additionally, the Minister directed road agencies and consultants to fast-track design approvals. He proposed holding design review meetings in single sittings at project sites to resolve technical challenges immediately rather than waiting weeks for feedback.
