Ghana Roads Minister reduces Chinese firms' contract scopes

Ghanaian Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Agbodza has ordered an immediate reduction in the scope of work for two Chinese construction firms due to slow progress on the Wenchi-Bole road project.

Following an inspection of the Wenchi-Bole Western Corridor in the Savannah Region, Agbodza directed that China International Water and Electric Corporation and Poly Changda Engineering Company each have their assigned work reduced from 50 kilometers to 25 kilometers. The minister cited insufficient mobilization and a pace of work that failed to meet project demands.

The government intends to assign the removed sections to two new contractors to increase project dynamism. The original firms have been given a two-month monitoring period to demonstrate measurable improvements on their remaining 25-kilometer portions; failure to meet targets could result in the total termination of their contracts.
